They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away.
(Paul Simon, 1973)
I’ve enrolled in a Digital Photography class at the local college.
It starts next week and I’m very excited about it.
I never really dug traditional photography.
I admire it, but it’s not for me.
Way too much work.
My sister Toby is a traditionalist when it comes to photography.
She’s even built a darkroom in her guest house.
I’ve not seen any of her stuff yet although I’m sure she has some.
Not only is it a process to develop the pictures but it’s another to share them.
Especially across the pond.
Ahhh, the digital age.
Shamefully, I fall into the “Instant Gratification” generation.
Point, shoot, send.
Now however, I’m ready to kick it up a notch.
This class is extensive; six hours a week.
I will (hopefully) learn to capture, manipulate, correct, transmit, store and output images.
I’ve fooled around with Photoshop before, now I hope to master it.
Methods of Evaluation of Competencies, (College jargon, not my own!) will be based mostly on assignments and my final project/portfolio.
A Portfolio!
MY Portfolio…how jazzed am I?
I better get Tucker groomed,
Gussy up the kids,
And warn all my nappy friends to clean up their acts.
For the next four months, I’m gonna fancy myself a shutterbug!
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away!
